Position Summary

Lab scale development and compounding of new fluoro-thermoplastic containing compounds with a focus on TSE (twin-screw) manufacturing equipment.  Assist planning and coordination of development activities including compounding, sample preparation and characterization to meet project objectives in a timely, cost-effective manner.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Oversee and participate (hands on) in the development and compounding of new fluoro-thermoplastic containing compounds with a focus on TSE (twin-screw) manufacturing equipment.
  • Plastic Product Development – Formulation development, Process development, including auxiliary equipment selection, screw design, and processing parameter development.
  • Technical Support to new business development for existing products.
  • Participation in product scale-up (Twin screws) – support technical effort to scale up development products to run commercial volumes.
  • Coordinate Materials characterization – Sample preparation, physical, electrical, rheology, thermal, and tribological properties. SEM, TEM, and image analysis.
  • Assist lab employees in sample preparation and testing.
  • Knowledge of thermoplastic materials, characterization, and processing.
  • Technical skills – Using technical knowledge, methods, and math skills to solve problems.
  • Critical Thinking, Problem Solving/Troubleshooting – Using logic and reasoning to identify complex problems, cause & effect, review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Reading Comprehension – Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.

Experience and Education
  • BS in a scientific discipline (Polymer or Mechanical Engineering), and or 3+ years of proven plastics compounding experience and new product development.
